Watercolour | 6 x 10 inches I was inspired by Clausen and Herkomer watercolours. I like the profile of Will against the background trees. I completed  a quick sketch on site and was aided by a photograph for the finer details.

Watercolour | 4 x 3 inches I like using gouache on its own or with watercolour, it dries quickly and it allows itself to be pushed and pulled a bit like oils. Sometimes I find the washes a bit flat, so it’s a bit of a balance to get the density of pigment and also

Watercolour | 4.5 x 5.5 inches The white paper was left for the sparkling sea and then heightened with a bit of gouache. The silhouetted yachts contrast nicely. 

Watercolour | 5.25 x 7.5 inches Subjects like this work well in watercolour with stark colour contrasts. Snow is great to paint in watercolour, washes of subtle purple or blues work really well. 

Watercolour | 5.75 x 8.5 inches I haven’t painted many pigs, but where we live there are now several fields that are full pigs, so there’s plenty to paint! 

Oil on canvas | 16 x 22 inches This shows all the five horses on the field, the grey is the focus, though the other horses have the beautiful sheen on their coats that is so inspiring and difficult to paint. 

Oil on board | 10 x 8 inches Although a studio painting the lively brushstrokes give it a feeling of a plein air piece, which is what I strive for in studio work. 

Oil on canvas | 8 x 16 inches It felt weird painting such an iconic London landmark not in its full glory, instead covered by scaffolding. But it was a chance to paint something that none of us will see again in our lifetime. The night sky had great crimson and cerulean tones in it

Oil on board | 8 x 12 inches Quite a simple subject was transformed by the November sunlight, that gave great sparkling highlights. 

Oil on canvas| 16 x 22 inches I put a thin wash of linseed oil over the canvas that moves the paint a bit better. It works especially well with seascapes to help achieve that fluidity.
