“You may recall last year I wrote of the trials I have faced on previous occasions while painting this view of Salthouse church. I’m pleased to say that there were no such difficulties on this occasion. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the warm sunbeams of late afternoon, the lovely sound of croaking pheasants and the harrowing bark of the awful muntjac deer in the woodland behind me. Being savaged by midges and being crawled upon by black caterpillars was just a distant memory.”
