“This watercolour was a real challenge and I ended up abandoning my tried and tested technique of one or two washes for a very different approach. I started with the darker colours and then painted over the top of these with as many washes of transparent colour as the paper could handle. I did enjoy being pushed out of my comfort zone and I learnt a great deal from this painting.”
