“I absolutely loved painting this subject. The shepherd was very friendly and we chatted about Joseph Farquharson (1846 – 1935) who was a Scottish painter, chiefly of landscapes, mostly in Scotland and very often including animals. I said to him “I bet you don’t get asked to model very often?” He replied “You’d be surprised!”
