“Bittersweet memories are attached to this painting. It was a beautiful subject- something a bit different for me – I worked in bliss knowing that my football team Leeds United were winning at halftime against Spurs. Alas, by the time I’d packed up my paints and made it home we’d managed to lose the match. Anyway, blue and orange is always a difficult colour combination to capture convincingly, and I spent many hours in the studio afterwards trying to get the colours just right.”
